For better or worse, 2021 has come and gone, and with a new year comes new opportunities for a fresh start.
Are you hoping that a fresh start comes for your love life too? You are not alone. Let’s start by saying that we’re confident this will be YOUR year. The year you find yourself, better yourself, and find true love.
So, stop making resolutions that may or may not stick, and start implementing these five approaches to dating in the new year:
1) Be Open-Minded
Drop all those preconceived notions and take a chance on someone. Embrace change! It can be tough to break out of your shell. But, if you want to find love, you need to be open to new experiences and new people. So, if you meet someone who maybe doesn’t check every box on your long list of love qualifications, go ahead and take a chance – you never know where it might lead.
2) Ask an Expert for Advice
If you’re struggling to find your person, it can be helpful to get an outside opinion. A relationship coach is like a best friend, trainer, and psychologist all in one, giving you the tools and advice you need to find lasting love. Relationship coaching will help you:
· Identify the areas of your love life that need improvement
· Give you practical tips on how to make changes
· Develop key skills like conflict resolution and relatability
· Break old habits or patterns
Relationship coaches will help you step out of your shell and give you that fresh start physically and mentally.
3) Mix Things Up
Let’s set the intention that this is the year you stop doing the same things and expecting different results. It’s time to mix things up! One of the most exciting things about dating is that it’s constantly changing. Relationships come and go, and what works one day might not work the next. If something isn’t working, don’t be afraid to try something new. Maybe you decide to try online dating (read our post about writing an online dating profile!), or perhaps a virtual speed dating event on Zoom. Either way, make this the year you open yourself up to new possibilities. The results may (and hopefully will!) surprise you.
4) Lean On Others
Many singles struggle to open up about feelings of loneliness or frustrations with not finding the right person. It can be especially difficult if everyone around you seems to be in happy, long-lasting partnerships. Instead of finding comfort, you may feel like you’re creating a burden. You deserve a support system to lift you up and cheer you on when you need it most. Let’s make that a reality in the new year! Join a place to safely connect with other like-minded singles while gaining clarity and confidence.
5) Be Honest with Yourself
One of the biggest obstacles to finding love is self-doubt. If you’re not sure of what you want, it’s going to be even more complicated for others to figure it out. Be honest with yourself and ask yourself the tough questions. What are you looking for in a partner? What are your deal-breakers? Once you know the answers, you’ll be able to start looking for them in others.
Bonus Tip: Spend some time in the new year learning your love languages. Understanding how you need to receive love (and eventually how to give it) will allow you to better communicate your needs to your future partner.
