You know it’s officially summer when you have the urge to spend all day in the sunshine. If you live in a place that’s cold most of the year, everyone’s out and about. Parties are in full swing, vacations are booked, bars are packed, laidback vibes are flowing, and new, exciting energy is in the air. It’s the perfect time to meet people, so get out there and plan the best summer dates!
When you’ve found someone you want to go on dates with (whether you met on a dating app, through mutual friends, rekindled an old flame, or met someone on a night out), you’re probably looking for some ideas for date night.
We’ve got the ultimate list of cute date ideas and summer date activities to help jumpstart your love life and make dating fun again!
This one’s at the top of everyone’s list of date ideas in summer, especially if you live close to a beach (a lake works too!) or have access to a pool. You could enjoy lounging by the water and working on your tan together. You could even make some fruity tropical drinks to share. Look up recipes online and play bartender! Or you could craft some delicious mocktails for an alcohol-free but still delicious option.
Now I know what some of you are thinking: “But I don’t want them to see me in a swimsuit!” I totally understand where you’re coming from! Maybe spending the day by the water isn’t the best choice for a first date; maybe it’s better for someone you’ve been seeing for a while or have already been on a few dates with. But remember, if this is a person you really like, they’ll eventually see you without your clothes on, so just embrace the lovely weather and your inner body positivity!
This is one of my favorite ideas for date night—a romantic evening overlooking the city and taking in a gorgeous sunset is hard to beat! Enjoying a nice dinner or drinks with a view is one of the best summer dates. And this works no matter where you live since most cities have rooftop options overlooking the skyline.
Pick a spot you’ve always wanted to try. Sometimes these places can get a little pricey, so look at the menu ahead of time to see what drink or food specials they have. Happy hours are always an option, especially if you’re on a budget. They lend a little sophistication and the same atmosphere at half the price. Don’t forget to make a reservation, especially on the weekend. Rooftop spots can fill up quickly and for good reason!
Talk about cute date ideas! Research some of the farmers markets in your area. Most of them happen on the weekend, but there are some weekday ones you could scope out. Farmers markets are great for trying new foods or finding fresh produce. Here’s a summer date activity: Pick out a dish, go shopping for the ingredients, and then make a healthy, fresh meal together. After all, the way to the heart is usually through the stomach, right?
No good farmers markets near you? You could look up food halls or street markets and make a day of it. These spots usually sell a variety of quick bites and have clothes or handmade crafts for sale. When you want a date night idea that’s more casual, these spots are a perfect option. There are endless things to look at and something will be sure to spark interesting conversations!
Summer is one of the best times of the year to see live music, and as far as ideas for date night go, this one will definitely please any music lover! If you don’t want to spend too much time or money attending a ticketed concert or festival, you could search for free music at local parks and bring a picnic to share while you enjoy some tunes. An outdoor performance is always an added bonus to enjoy the warm summertime weather!
Find out what kind of music your date enjoys ahead of time and suggest a spot. Many bars and restaurants feature local musicians on various nights. You could go out for dinner and drinks, and top your evening off with some live music. Your city might also have jazz bars where piano or saxophone players really get the evening going!
A wine tasting is an excellent option for day date ideas in summer, especially if you want to tap into your sophisticated side by tantalizing your palette with an array of fine wines (and maybe some cheese too!). Research vineyards close to you and make a mini-trip out of it. You could also look for a local tasting room for a similar vibe.
Or, if there aren’t any vineyards or tasting rooms near you, why not craft your own tasting night? You could select a few of your favorite wines and put together a charcuterie board. Take turns trying each other’s wine—pretend to be sommeliers and make a fun date night out of it!
